Sustainably Made Art Competition and Exhibition

SMART

Sustainably Made Art Competition and Exhibition

SMART is an opportunity to view throw-away materials through a new lens and show how they can be made into extraordinary artworks.  SMART has been held 3 times in Papakura. Entries have come from all age groups, and genre. This resulted in a varied and stunning display of creativity, ingenuity and skill which excited judges and the viewing public. SMART is open to all to create and enter artworks made from junk and/or natural materials. You don’t have to be an ‘artist’ to enter. In fact, we encourage any one to have a go.

Purpose

SMART brings together individuals from across all sectors, as both competitors and volunteers, creating an event to celebrate and showcase Papakura’s  talent, and to put waste materials to good use.

A Joint Effort

SMART events, initiated by Sustainable Papakura, have been the result of collaboration and support by a variety of organisations including Papakura Art Gallery, Papakura Library, The Corner Creative Space, Papakura Art Gallery, and Sustainable Schools as well as various individuals.

Sponsorship for prizes came from VISY Recycling and What’s in Stock, Papakura. Judges have been volunteers from School Art Departments, the Arts Community and Local Board. A Public Vote is also held.

A Joint Effort

The next SMART event is being organised by Sustainable Papakura in collaboration with Sir Edmund Hillary Library, Papakura Art Gallery and Papakura Business Association. As in previous years, this community event will need support from interested groups and people to help organize, manage and set up the next event. Please contact us if think you would like to be involved.

Sponsorship for prizes is currently being sought.
