Workshops and Events
Sustainable Papakura is pleased to offer a range of workshops to support Sustainable Living and Waste Minimisation and to provide an opportunity to learn new skills, learn about waste issues, meet others with mutual interests and experience the excitement of 'Make Your Own'. You'll learn to use free or low cost materials, many of which you already have to hand, to make packaging-free items for everyday use. These will enable you to replace disposables with re-useables. You'll also learn to repair and makeover treasured items, extending their life and your pleasure in them. Some workshops are Free, some include a materials fee, others attract a workshop fee.
Now running: Plastic-free July. How can you reduce the use of plastic in your life?In conjunction with our July Sustainable Market, we will have a display of home made Cleaning Mixes, a Beeswax Wrap workshop and a Composting Information Stand. At other times during the year we will be out there participating in community events, providing information and activities. Watch our calendar for future events. Kids learn to be resourceful and waste conscious.After School and Holiday Time hands on programmes teach kids about waste and caring for our environment while learning skills, re-purposing, and having fun. Projects include Sewing Bees to make re-useable bags; Urban Edibles- tending our Planters in the Town Centre; Slippers for Kids- knitting slippers for kids in selected Papakura schools.
