Workshop and event information
Learn how to use a sewing machine safely, how to follow a pattern.Practice your new skills on specially selected projects. We have access to many fabrics that have been generously donated to us and saved from going to landfill. However, if you have a preference for a particular fabric of your own, you can bring that too.
Learn to mend and upcycle.
Have you any clothing or soft furnishings to mend, alter or upcycle? If you are unsure what to do, bring it along for help. We have sewing machines and some resources such as zips, buttons, elastic, and thread.
While you're here:
- find out what to do with the 3 Waste Bin service in Papakura
- learn how to make Beeswax Wraps and how to use and care for them
- drop off items to our Recycling Collection Point
- chat to us about volunteering opportunities.
Make reusable bags.
Join a friendly group of volunteers to make our 'borrow and return' bags from fabric that was destined for landfill. Tasks include: simple sewing, cutting, pinning, and screen-printing.
We have made over 3,000 borrow and return bags available free to Papakura shoppers.
Make an organiser to store seeds in.
It's autumn and we're celebrating Harvest time this month. Learn how to use upcycled materials to make a unique seed storage box where you can organise and store your seeds with a plan to know when to sow your seeds as well. These could be seeds you've purchased or seeds you've collected yourself.

Let's go on a Foraging Hunt
Join us with your tamariki for a foraging walk in Papakura to our Urban Edible planter boxes. Let's see what scrumptious delights we can find to eat.
We will set off from the Base (Sustainable Papakura 4/2 Averill St, Papakura) at 3.45pm and will return by 4.30 pm to share and enjoy our delights!
Please bring a reusable bag or basket to collect your harvest!
Another event in our Harvest series.
