World For Our Mokopuna

Sustainable Papakura Works with
the community to nurture and protect Papatuanuku

We team up with individuals, families, groups and organisations to re-imagine and remake lifestyles that will support Mother Earth to sustain us into the future.

Information, workshops and a range of other opportunities and activities are available to help us all learn and work together to make Papakura a vibrant, eco-friendly and Sustainable Community.

Thanks for 'homing in' on our home page! and welcome along on the 2024 Sustainable Journey with Sustainable Papakura

February brings Waitangi and Valentines Day and this has inspired us to focus on being kind to each other, and to think about what more we can do to protect and nurture Papatuuaanuku, our Mother Earth.

This year February also brings changes across Aotearoa NZ, standardising what we do with our household kerbside recycling. This also contributes to the theme of kindness to people and the planet, ensuring waste sorting sites are safe for workers, and making sure everything that goes in your yellow lid recycling bin, can actually be recycled, and kept in circulation.

The initial Key Messages are,

  • Make sure everything you put in your bin is CLEAN. Think about the people that handle and process your recycling.
  • Remember that lids cannot be recycled so must go in the rubbish.

AND then, if they're clean, YOU CAN RECYCLE :

  • Plastics showing numbers 1, 2, and 5
  • Food and Drink Cans and Tins
  • Cardboard and Paper
  • Glass bottles and Jars

All these are fully recyclable so by Recycling RIGHT, you are making Earth's resources go round and round, keeping that Recycling Loop going, and avoiding the need to keep robbing Mother Earth of her precious resources at current rates.

And remember, when you make a purchase, try to choose items and packaging that will be recyclable

What Are We Doing In Your Community?

Community Involvement

We like to go out and about getting everyone involved in making ours a resilient, sustainable community. You can participate in our bi-annual Sustainably Made Art competition -that's SMART; join us at Community Events; or you can invite us to your place: group, organisation, workplace or event. We can offer a guest speaker, waste audit, Q & A session or workshop tailored to your needs. You'll see a Snapshot of our activities on our gallery of stories and pictures.
